A woman who launched a wine bottle at a man during a fight over a 'love triangle' has been handed a community order.

Jenna Stanworth had pleaded guilty to affray on October 25, after she was involved in a fight with Andrew Hoyle and Chantelle McDonald outside of Hoyle’s home in the summer of 2021.

Constance Halliwell, prosecuting, told Burnley Crown Court how after ‘nasty’ texts were exchanged between Hoyle and Ms McDonald’s phone on July 1, 2021, she and Stanworth turned up at Hoyle’s home in Fountain Street, Burnley.

Stanworth, 36, of Melville Street, Burnley, caused a fight to erupt after she threw a bottle of wine which hit Hoyle on his left wrist.

Hoyle - who was jailed in October for his part in the fight - had claimed he was involved in a love triangle with the women and was in a relationship with Ms McDonald.

She said the reality was Hoyle, 47, was infatuated with her and she was only in a relationship with Stanworth.

After being hit by the bottle, Hoyle went into his house and came out with a hammer and began to run towards McDonald, threatening her.

Stanworth and Hoyle started hitting each other, before Hoyle went back into his house and grabbed a BB gun which he pointed in McDonald’s face.

Hoyle then went back inside again and came back with an amount of curry powder, which he threw in Stanworth’s face.

Police - who Stanworth had called while Hoyle was fetching his fake firearm - then arrived and split the fracas up.

Passing sentence, Judge Ian Unsworth KC  said he felt it would be “unjust” to propose any punitive elements as part of the sentence.

Stanworth was handed a 12 month community order and ordered to complete 20 rehabilitation activity days for her role in the fight.

Judge Unsworth also reminded Stanworth that failure to comply with the requirements could lead to a jail sentence, but it was “abundantly clear” that would not happen.
