Work has started to clear land along one of Blackburn’s busiest routes.

The land opposite Home Bargains on the corner of King Street and Wainwright Way is being cleared to make way for six commercial units.

Workmen could be seen with diggers clearing the area this week. It is first time work has began on this part of the Wainwright Way with much of the area opposite already  developed.

Blackburn’s £12 million Wainwright Bridge to the town centre opened in 2016 linking
Montague Street and Bolton Road, and has helped create new business development space.

Wainwright Estates NW Limited, which bought the plot of land from the council submitted a planning application in 2021.

The plans will see the erection of six commercial units, with five together and the sixth nearby.

Access to the site will be from Freckleton Street and the units will face westwards into the car park towards Wainwright Way.

The application says: “Five units would be formed within the larger block with a single unit formed within the smaller block.

"The larger block would have a footprint of circa 780 square meters and a mono-pitched roof up to 8.8m in height.

It adds: “The units would be fitted with grey powder-coated aluminium frontages and windows with roller shutter doors also proposed.

"A shared parking area would be provided adjacent to Wainwright Way with bin storage and service areas also provided.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

Executive Member for Growth and Development, Cllr Quesir Mahmood, said: “It is a fantastic location and I can see this being an ideal location new starts ups.

“There is already huge demand for commercial units of this nature.

“I am glad that work has begun to clear the site as I know it has been challenging during Covid for construction projects.”
