Man arrested after woman assaulted in Burnley

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was assaulted.

Officers launched an appeal on Sunday following the incident, which happened around 2.39am on January 22 on Westgate. 

Police received reports that a man had assaulted a woman but had run off after being 'disturbed'.

Following enquiries, police have now arrested a 32-year-old man from Hapton.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Yesterday we asked for your help identifying a man we wanted to speak to after a woman was assaulted in Burnley.

"Our officers were called to Westgate at 2.39am on January 22 following reports a man had assaulted a woman but had run off after being disturbed.

"Just to update you, a 32-year-old man from Hapton was arrested this morning and remains in custody."
