Police say they have finally found the owner of a BMW that has allegedly been clocked speeding 25 times in five weeks.

The same black BMW was allegedly picked up on cameras across the county on multiple occasions in various locations, with the driver doing anything from 7mph to 17mph over the speed limit in residential areas.

On one occasion he was allegedly caught doing almost 60mph in a 40mph zone.

Police said the car was hard to track down as it was reportedly not registered to a UK address, meaning the speeding offences could not be processed

The vehicle was seized after being stopped on St Paul’s Road in Preston last week.

Police said the motorist was travelling without insurance.

Due to the number of alleged traffic offences, a case file will be prepared for court by the Safer Roads Unit, where a disqualification will be considered by magistrates.

Sgt Dave Benson, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “This car had been flagged up by safety cameras right across the county so we could see that the driver was regularly putting other road users at risk.

“The speed limit is there for a reason and we will not stand for law-abiding citizens being put in danger by those who think the law doesn’t apply to them.

“Some people seem to think if they don’t get their paperwork in order we won’t be able to track them down, but we hope this sends a message that we will put measures in place to find them and they will be dealt with robustly and proportionately.”
