Jordan North says he recently got locked in his spare bedroom and had to pick the lock with a coat hanger.

The Radio 1 presenter jokingly thanked his Burnley upbringing for teaching him the lockpicking skill that allowed him to escape.

Speaking on his podcast Help I Sexted My Boss, which he hosts alongside William Hanson, Jordan said the incident occurred at his new home in London, which he recently moved into.

Jordan, 32, said he “genuinely couldn’t be happier” with the house but admits there are some “teething problems”.

He said: “It’s great, I genuinely couldn’t be happier. It’s everything I’ve worked for and it’s my first proper home  - but there are a couple of teething problems.

“On the first day I properly moved in I got locked in my spare room. The door was locked and the handle had [fallen off] from the inside

“I was so proud of myself. I was fine and I didn’t [initially] panic.”

Jordan, who admits to being claustrophobic, said the panic began to set in as he assessed the situation.

He said: “I couldn’t get out the window as that one didn’t open. The painter and decorator just left and didn’t have a key to get in.

“[I am claustrophobic] so started panicking.”

Jordan then joked that you ‘”can take the lad out of Burnley but you can’t take Burnley out of the lad” as he found he found a coat hanger.

He said: “I had a look around and was starting to panic. It was fate. There was one wire coat hanger in the cupboard.

“I got the hanger, unravelled it and picked the lock. It took about two minutes. You can take the lad out of Burnley.

“Then I unlocked it and taped it so it wouldn’t shut properly, then I got a handyman to come around and fix it.”

Jordan also complained about living near an airport and hearing the aeroplanes pass overhead.

He said: “One other thing they forgot to mention when I moved in is that we are right below one main flight paths or of London airport’s.

“If you leave a window open at around 5am you will [hear airplanes flying by].”

He joked: “If you ever stay at my house don’t use a flight app, just speak to the pilot out the window

“I put my washing out the other day and came back with tyre marks on my face.”
