HYNDBURN'S MP has won a promise that East Lancashire councils will find out if their bids for cash grants from the government's £4.8billion Levelling Up Fund have been successful by the end of this month.
Tory backbencher Sara Britcliffe raised the issue with minister Dehenna Davison MP in the House of Commons on Monday, Parliament's first day back after the Christmas and New Year break.
During Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities questions she asked: “In Hyndburn and Haslingden we welcomed the shared prosperity funding received, which will support places like Haslingden Market.
"But after significant stakeholder engagement, we now eagerly await the outcome of our Levelling Up Fund bid, so can you confirm that the results will be known before the end of the month?”
Mrs Davison MP, replied: "I am very grateful to you and I know you are an excellent champion for her community.
"This isn’t the first time you have bent my ear on the Levelling Up Fund and I am sure it certainly will not be the last.
"I can confirm we will announce the full outcome of the Levelling Up Fund by the end of January.”
Hyndburn Council has submitted a £23million bid for Levelling Up Fund cash focussing on regeneration of Accrington Market Hall, Market Chambers and Burton’s Chambers.
Blackburn with Darwen Council has submitted a £60million bid for grants from the government pot including for a skills and education campus next to the former Thwaites Brewery and major upgrade of the Guide Junction Five of the M65 motorway.
Lancashire County Council has submitted a £50m bid to the Levelling Up Fund focussed on transport improvements in the east of the county.
Last month the seven local authorities providing services to East Lancashire shared more than £27m of Whitehall grants from the related Shared Prosperity Fund.
