A charity event is being held in memory of a former pub landlady who died of cancer last year.

Sarah Moore was the landlady at the Hare and Hounds in Clayton Le Moors before her death last January.

On the anniversary of her death, January 13, the pub is hosting a charity night to raise money for East Lancashire Hospice.

Sarah’s daughter and landlady of the pub, Emma Wallace said: “It’s something we decided we were going to do as a family in honour of our mum.

“We are going to do it yearly in her memory.

“She organised a charity do in October 2021 when she was ill but still wanted to help as much as she could which was amazing.

“The community, our customers and local businesses have been very supportive, everyone is involved.

“Its not been easy over the past year, not only with my mum passing but with the cost of living crisis we have tried to keep things going for her and we want to keep her memory here in the pub that she loved.”

On the Friday night, there will be four singers performing at the pub as well as a raffle and an auction.

On Sunday (January 15), the pub is holding a darts competition as another fundraiser in Sarah’s name.

The 51-year-old was the much-loved and loving wife of Sean, mum to Lee, Kevin, Stuart, Emma, Danny and Matt, dearly loved daughter of Carol, loving nan of Holly, Elexi, Lucas and Alex, Sarah was much loved by all her friends and customers.

Following her death, daughter Sarah stepped up and helped her dad Sean run the pub.

Emma added: “Cancer affects a lot of people. We have had a lot of customers who have lost their family members to cancer as well.

“Someone always has someone who has been affected by it.

“We just wanted to raise awareness for places like the hospice.

“They were all fantastic with mum and us and we were grateful for all their help.”

Sarah trained as a nurse working in Manchester and then moved to Spain for three years before returning to the UK working in Asda and various pubs.

Sarah came into her own when she took over position as landlady along with her beloved husband Sean at the Hare and Hounds where she became a much loved pillar in the local community over the last four years.

She loved to socialise, so she was the perfect landlady, and she enjoyed a drink whilst chatting away to her friends.
