A driver has been arrested for drugs offences after he crashed his car on the motorway, continued to drive it and then crashed it again at the services.

Police patrolling the M61 last night (Tuesday, January 3) were alerted to a car which had crashed due to the bad weather.

Instead of stopping, officers said the driver continued to travel along the M61, before heading onto the M6 in a dangerous state and then finally crashing at the M6 Lancaster services.

The second crash totalled the car completely.

When police arrived the driver was arrested for being unfit to drive through drugs, possession of a controlled drug and driving without a licence.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Vehicle crashes on M61 in terrible weather conditions but continues in a dangerous state until crashing again at M6 Lancaster services disabling the vehicle completely.

"Driver arrested for being unfit through drugs, no licence and possession of controlled drugs."
