A teenage girl was walking home from school with her younger sister when she was attacked by a dog, a court has heard.

Blackburn Magistrates's Court heard how the girl, 14, suffered two bite wounds to her chest which required hospital treatment.

Jordan Greaves, 22, of Ballantrae Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control regarding the incident on November 3.

He was remanded on bail until January 26 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Bilal Saeed, prosecuting, said the victim and her sister were passing Greaves' home when she was attacked by the dog, a Pocket Bully called Hugo, without provocation.

"She suffered two lacerations to her chest which were glued at hospital," said Mr Saeed.

Sheila Whitehead, defending, said it was her understanding the police officer involved in the case was not recommending that the dog should be destroyed.

She said the dog was in police kennels and the question of a destruction order could be considered by both parties during the adjournment for a pre-sentence reports.

The bully dog breed is not on the banned list of breeds in the UK, like pit bull terriers, Japanese tosas and Dogo Argentinos.

But a bully XL was said to be responsible for the fatal attack on north-west toddler Bella-Mae Birch last March.

A Pocket Bully is a hybrid dog that is bred from an American Pit Bull Terrier and a Patterdale Terrier, and are usually around a foot tall and weigh five to 10kg.
