Residents have praised the staff at a Tesco in Great Harwood for their recreation of the lopsided Christmas tree in Great Harwood.

Labour councillor for Overton, Scott Brerton posted the photo of the tree in question on a local Facebook group on Friday (December 23).

Rather than a conventional Christmas tree, staff at the Tesco in Queen Street, Great Harwood decided to have some festive fun by angling the tree as if it’s falling over, like the one in the town centre.

It’s situated outside the Tesco entrance so shoppers can’t miss it on their way in our out of the store.

Cllr Brerton wrote: “Hats off to Tesco for the faithful recreation of the Christmas tree on Towngate.”

The post received over 170 likes with residents laughing at the mockery. With three laughing emojis, one resident wrote: “Post of the year.”

Another said: “Very good if we didn’t laugh we could easily cry…”

One person even claimed the idea to be “genius” but not everyone was on board with the superstore’s recreation. They said: “Seen it a bit cheap from Tesco.”

This comes after the Christmas tree in Great Harwood was blasted on social media and even councillors were disappointed with the sight.

Kimberley Whitehead, Hyndburn Labour Secretary, added: “"It’s anything but tree-mendous.

"It’s another shambles by the Conservative coalition.

"Our Labour councillors in Great Harwood have seen a lot of negative comments about how residents feel let down that the council don’t seem capable of putting a tree up straight.

"The council responded swiftly to the issue that I raised regarding Accrington’s Christmas tree but you would have thought that they would have learnt from the public backlash and got the other trees right.”
