THE queue snaked through W H Smith’s in Blackburn and into the shopping centre itself as Blackburn Rovers new hero Alan Shearer visited the store to sign copies of the club’s new promotional video in December 1992.
Extra security had to be brought in as the crowd grew with fans eager to meet their idol.
The young striker had signed for the Ewood Park outfit in July of that year for a record fee of £3.6 million and had already established himself as a fans’ favourite.
He went on to become a cult hero as the strike partnership he formed with Chris Sutton helped the club to win the Premier League title and he went on to be England’s top striker for a number of years.
Did you queue up to get the star striker’s signature? Have you still got the video?
