A drink driver from Great Harwood was arrested after police caught them driving twice the legal alcohol limit.

On Sunday (December 4), officers from Team 5 carried out 59 roadside breath tests at a drink drive checkpoint set up in Great Harwood, as part of their mission to prevent drink driving during the festive and World Cup period.

Just one driver out of the 59 provided a positive result and was arrested as a result. The legal alcohol limit is 35 micrograms per 100ml of breath.

The driver has been charged with drink driving and will be appearing in court soon, police said.

Team 5 will be carrying out roadside tests at the checkpoint throughout the week.

A spokesperson for the police said: “This morning, Team 5 officers from Blackburn have set up a drink drive checkpoint in Great Harwood.

“If you’re watching the match tonight be considerate of how much you are drinking if you’re driving in the morning.”
