IT remains one of the most historic privately-owned homes in East Lancashire.

Browsholme Hall at Bashall Eaves near Clitheroe dates back to Tudor times and for generations has been the home of the Parker family.

Today it offers exclusive accommodation in a series of lodges within the grounds and it is a popular setting for weddings with its Tithe Barn having been beautifully restored by the current owners.

These photographs reveal the splendour of the interior of the hall in the post war years. Photographers from the then Northern Daily Telegraph were invited in to the hall in both 1946, the year after the end of the war, and then 10 years later to capture some of the rooms at the hall.

In 1956 it’s possible that Robert Parker, then owner of the hall, asked the photographer along as the following year he would open up his home to guided tours for the first time having undertaken a great deal of renovation work.

They are a fascinating study of a real East Lancashire treasure.
