Home Bargains is opening a new store in Lancashire creating almost 100 jobs.

The discount retailer has invested approximately £1million in its new Preston store which will be officially opened at 8am on Saturday November 26.

As one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, Home Bargains is creating 95 new jobs in the local community with its store at the Capitol Centre.

In total, the store will employ 103 team members, including some staff and management, who will be transferring from other stores.

Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry, and the new Preston store will join more than 575 outlets across the UK.

Home Bargains will also be donating £2,000 to a local charity, CancerHelp Preston, an independent cancer support charity that has been offering personalised support to local people affected by cancer for over 30 years.

During that time, the charity has gained an extensive understanding of the support needs of Home Bargains clients, as well as building a well-qualified and experienced team.

CancerHelp Preston supports people from five years of age, with no upper age limit from its two centres in Preston and Garstang.

General manager at CancerHelp Preston, Jeanette Smalley, said: “Thank you to Home Bargains for its kind donation of £2,000.

"As a local independent charity, we are feeling the impact of increased running costs, as we all are at the moment, and coupled with this, there are more and more people seeking our support.

"This donation is both gratefully received and will be put to very good use.”

Preston store manager, Jordan Gillman, who has managed three stores previously and been involved in the opening of all three, said: “We are delighted to be opening this new store in Preston, creating local jobs and supporting an excellent charity in the process.

"CancerHelp Preston is an outstanding organisation with close connections to the local community. We are pleased that we will be able to play a part in ensuring that their valuable work can continue.”

The 28,697 sq. ft store, which formerly housed Fabb Sofas, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

The store will have an onsite bakery, bringing quality fresh produce to shoppers on a daily basis, as well as a café where shoppers can grab a cuppa or a delicious meal.

Jordan Gillman added: “Preston will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

With more than five million customers each week, Home Bargains is one of the country’s best-loved discount retailers, stocking top-quality branded goods at low prices.
