A CASH grant to an East Lancashire arts organisation has been praised by its local MP.

Pendle's Andrew Stephenson has welcomed £141,558 of support to Brierfield's In-Situ.

It is one of dozens of organisations in Lancashire to receive £9.4million in grants from the Arts Council England’s investment programme for the next three years.

The funding shake-up announced last week will also see Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, the National Festival of Making, the British Textile Biennial and Culturapedia have added to the Arts Council’s national portfolio guaranteeing them funding.

The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery in Rawtenstall and two Hyndburn-based organisations - DanceSyndrome and Idle Women - are also new additions to the list.

Burnley Youth Theatre and Horse and Bamboo at Waterfoot will continue to receive financial support.

The £141,558 for Pendle's In-Situ based in Northlight – formerly known as Brierfield Mills – will provide long-term investment in the area's talent and supporting the next generation of creators, performers and artists.

Government whip Mr Stephenson said: “I am focused on making sure that more people in more places can enjoy arts and culture on their doorstep and I will continue working to provide local organisations with the funding and support they need.

“The £141,533 being delivered by the conservative government in In-Situ will pay dividends in Brierfield and across Pendle, boosting our local economy, creating jobs in the area, and bringing our communities closer together.

“We are widening access to arts and culture, so that everyone can enjoy the fantastic arts and culture on offer here in our community and the benefits that investment brings.”
