The family of a 74-year-old from Padiham who died in a crash on a motorway link road on Saturday have paid a loving tribute to him.

Harry Boothby died after a crash involving a Mercedes-Benz Vito van in Higher Shuttleworth on Saturday, October 29.

The crash happened at around 7.40pm on the A6068 between junction eight of the M65 and Blackburn Road.

The driver of the Mercedes suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Harry’s family have been supported by police officers and the force said it "send them our deepest condolences at this devastating time".

In a tribute, Harry’s family said: “We would like to thank the witnesses that stopped to help our dad and the emergency services that attended to him on Saturday.

“We would also like to thank the police liaison officer who has given us support through this difficult time.

“Thank you for all the support from our friends and extended families.

“We are devastated as a family, and he will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren.”

Police are still appealing for witnesses to help with their enquiries.

Harry was driving a Volkswagen Passat when his car was involved in the crash with the van.

Officers closed the road between junction eight of the M65 and the junction with the A678 Blackburn Road so they could deal with the incident, and motorists were asked to find an alternative route.

Sgt Michael Higginson, of Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations, said: “These are tragic circumstances and our thoughts and prayers are very much with Mr Boothby’s family at this difficult time.

“We are continuing to appeal for witnesses, in particularly anyone with dashboard mounted camera footage, which could assist our enquiries.

“If you can help please come forward.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting log 1154 of October 29.
