Fundraising is continuing next month to raise vital funds for Elliott Simpson who needs more than £100,000 for self-funded cancer treatment.

The 26-year-old, from Green Park Close in Mill Hill, who has been diagnosed with stage four malignant melanoma, is self-funding his own treatment due to a policy, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, states the drug needed is not licensed as an option for Elliott given previous treatment he has already received.

To fund the two-year treatment he needs, the family need to raise £180,000, so far, they have raised £80,000 from various fundraising events and donations.

And now in November, two men who have never met Elliott will be hosting a martial art fundraiser at Bolton university to raise more funds, hoping to help Elliott anyway they can.

David O Byrne, 60, and Trevor Roberts, 77, are strangers to Elliott but said they want to help after hearing his story.

David said: "I have got a friend that I have known for about 40 years, Trevor, and he is 77 and he is quite a bit of a legend around Bolton because he is a ninth dam jiu jitsu champion and he has represented the country and won world titles.

"So anyway, Trevor knows Elliott's mum and it's just come to his attention that Elliott is poorly and needs treatment.

"Elliott's family have now been told to get the treatment done they will need to pay £180,000 and as you can imagine that is not within grasp of most people and the only way the family would be able to get that money is dependent on the kindness of strangers or sell the family home.

"So, they have managed to raise £80,000, but the problem is the cancer isn’t waiting for the money to some in, the cancer has now gone into his liver and kidneys, and it has started to spread, it's operable but it's expensive.

"So now, Trevor picked this up and wanted to host an event that would be a springboard to get some money coming in.

"We have never met Elliott, I have been in contact with his parents but never met them, so this is total strangers helping out strangers and what we want to do is put on an event in Bolton.

"We want the event to raise as much money as possible, but we also want to just see if we can spread awareness on social media so Elliott's story is shared far and wide.

"I want it to be a lot of fun, but I also want to reinforce that every penny counts.

"I would like us to raise £20,000 at the event but even if we raise £5,000, I will be happy as it is going to a well-deserved cause."

On Sunday November 6, there will be a martial arts fundraiser at Bolton University's Sports Centre with eight different martial art masters with kickboxing, jiu jitsu, judo and more, learning the craft rotating around the centre, seeing the different masters, and getting tips and tricks.

There will be eight zones open from 11am until 4pm and the idea is people pay to come along and all the money goes straight to Elliott's fundraiser.

Tickets are £30 for adults and for a family ticket; 2 adults and 2 children is £75.

David has asked attendees to pay £30 straight into Elliot's existing fundraiser, screenshot proof of the donation to be shown as receipt of ticket and to also email or call David to let him know they are attending so he can keep track of numbers on dhobyrne@gmail.com and 07837717709.
