1986 was a momentous year for Clitheroe. It was the year the Ribble Valley town celebrated its 800th anniversary in style.

A whole series of events to mark Clitheroe 800 were organised starting with a ball at the Stirk House in Gisburn in February of that year and culminating in a torchlight procession through the town in September.

Other events included a classic car rally around the Ribble Valley, a sponsored charity walk and a host of smaller events often benefitting local charities.

The biggest event of the years of celebration was the torchlight procession which saw hundreds of folk lining the streets as a large number of floats representing local firms and organisations.

Were you involved in the Clitheroe 800 celebrations? We’d love to hear what you got up to for the celebrations. And if you have any photos, again we would love to see them and share them with Looking Back readers.

Email your Clitheroe 800 memories to bygones@nqnw.co.uk or leave our comments and we will feature them in a future issue.
