Pendle Brook Care Home has joined forces with Burnley FC to host a weekly café so people with dementia and their carers can come together and socialise.

Organised by the activities coordinator at the care home, Claire Rothwell shared that the weekly run café was launched to create a safe, supportive and comfortable environment for people.

She said: “We have joined forces with Burnley FC in the Community to host a weekly cafe which is very informal, free of charge and is fully accessible with disabled access and facilities.

“We have singing, games, colouring, quizzes, conversation and also can provide signposting to other dementia services and have information leaflets available."

The Dementia Café comes after the care home, which is run by Rochcare, was inspected by the Care and Quality Commission and was rated as requiring improvements for safety, effectiveness, responsiveness and being well led.

The service was rated as good for being caring and the care home is committed to improving their services by putting on events such as the Dementia Café as well as their recent Last Night at the Proms.

Claire added: “Volunteers from Brave Church in Oswaldtwistle have joined us to help out each week and they bring youth and vibrancy to the cafes and are delighted to chat and join in with the elderly.

“We are hoping that we will grow in number and invite speakers such as talking about Falls Awareness, Planning for the Future as well as having singers, art & crafts and animal therapy sessions.”

The Dementia Café runs every Tuesday from 10:30am to 12pm on the ground floor at Pendle Brook Care Home in Oswaldtwistle.

Burnley Cricket Club in Belvedere Road also hosts a Dementia Café every Wednesday from 1pm to 3pm and takes place on a Thursday at Salvation Army in Lowergate, Clitheroe, from 10am to 12pm.

Pendle Brook is a residential and dementia care home in Haworth Street, Accrington, that provides a safe and secure home for their residents.
