A popular scarecrow festival, raising money for charity, is coming back to Ewood, Blackburn, later this month and it is bigger and better than ever before.

The Fernhurst and Oakdale Scarecrow Hunt is back again this year with prizes for first, second and third places, with more than 30 scarecrows part of the hunt.

The event will take place on October 29 from 11am to 5pm, with stalls, refreshments and Tombola will be at The Benefice of the Redeemer Church in Jack Walker Way.

The Living Veterans History Museum will also be there with war artefacts and their own air soft shooting range for people to have a go on.

Amy Rhodes, one of the organisers of the event alongside Laura Leilani, said: "We are really looking forward to this year's hunt.

"There's a real buzz on the estate on the day with families walking round and children excited when they find the next scarecrow.

"We're both really excited to see the scarecrow creations.

"The effort the residents go to is phenomenal.

"I have been collecting the names of this year's scarecrows and they sound 'interesting'.

"We have over 30 scarecrows to find that will located around the estate of Fernhurst and Oakdale.

"You can enter the hunt by purchasing a list of streets from us on the day for £2 and then finding all the scarecrow names and handing the sheet back in.

"All proceeds are being split between The Lancashire Poppy Appeal, The Living Veterans History Museum and the church.

"Thanks to many generous local businesses who sponsored the hunt we have been able to get together some fab prizes.

"A special judge will be there on the day choosing the three winning scarecrows aswell.

"Last year had hundreds of people attend with amazing feedback and raised just shy of £1,000 for charity.

"We're hoping this year will be an even better turn out and enjoyed by all.

"It's a great walk around with the average steps last year being 23,000 to complete the hunt.

"We started the organising in August but wouldn't be able to do it without the help of the local community and generous businesses."

There are also 20 runner up prizes, winning goody bags.
