As the days are getting colder, wetter, and darker, with Autumn definitely having arrived, many are again enjoying a Sunday classic – a roast dinner.

In the village of Old Langho, this pub is a popular choice for food, despite its secluded location.

The Grade-II listed building is warm and welcoming, and they have a broad menu with pub classic – including an ultimate roast.

One reviewer said: “I had been recommended The Black Bull by numerous people and had been dying to try the 'ultimate roast' for ages and it did not disappoint.

“The beef was beautifully tender and pink and the pork was juicy. The gravy was some of the best I have ever tasted and the cauliflower cheese was perfect.

“The place itself is warm and cosy and the staff are extremely welcoming.

“I cannot wait to return and sample the rest of the menu! I absolutely LOVED it!!”

Out in Ribchester, a 20 minute drive away, the Ribchester Arms is a popular choice for a meal out.

The daily roast is served seven days a week and costs £14.95.

One review said: “Booked Sunday lunch for seven - all had the roasts (lamb or beef). Tasty meat with plenty of vegetables.

“Enjoyed by adults and teenagers. Good selection of beer and very helpful staff. Popular pub/restaurant and all round good experience.”

A community led pub, the Dog Inn faced permanent closure in 2014 when it closed its doors.

The community came together and managed to raise £180,000 to get the pub back open.

They have since become a popular location for food, serving beef and chicken on their Sunday roast dinner menu.

A reviewer said: “Wow wow wow. Sadly this was our first visit despite the restaurant being open for ages and it being on my doorstep. What an absolute banger of a lunch was had!

“Chicken liver parfait with an apple jelly to start followed by the roast beef with all the trimmings. A side of cauliflower cheese was also placed.

“I then gave in and had dessert with a cheeky cocktail. The food was fantastic and at £19.95 for two courses or £24 for three.

“My partner had wood pigeon as the main and said it was delicious.

“And hand-pull ale at £3.60 a pint.

“The chef and staff were excellent to talk to and this will be a new favourite place.

“Guys you need to visit.”

The Millstone pub in Mellor is well respected having won a number of awards and having an AA Rosette.

They have a choice of beef, pork belly or chicken as well as a meat free roast.

A reviewer said: “Really enjoyed our Sunday’s roasts. We’ve been back two weeks in a row as we are relatively local.

“The beef is tender and tasty, not over cooked. I had chicken roast today and it was juicy and delicious. There’s veg, roasted potatoes and mash as well as a huge Yorkshire pudding.

“Good bar selection and puddings. Best of all it is so dog friendly with treats and a plate of beef for our good boy.

“The staff is friendly, attentive and helpful. Our new fave!”

The Clog and Billycock pub was sold last year but had remained trading as a busy food pub.

They have a large selection of meats on for their Sunday lunch including beef, pork, chicken and lamb.
