A weather warning has been put in place by The Met Office for East Lancashire on Wednesday, warning of high winds.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind affecting much of the North, including Lancashire on Wednesday, October 5.

The warning will be in place from midnight until 23:59pm.

The Met Office has said there is a "small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris" and also in coastal areas from large waves, and also a chance of damage to buildings.

Some journeys may take longer and some public transport services could be cancelled or impacted, with a chance some roads and bridges may be shut.

There is also a risk of powercuts, it said, as well as potential mobile phone coverage outages.

The Met Office said: "There is a chance of a deep low pressure system bringing gusts of 70 to 80mph to northern parts of the UK on Wednesday.

"Should this develop disruption would be expected. However, the most likely scenario is for gusts of 55 to 65mph within parts of the warning area, most likely the northern Irish Sea and parts of eastern Scotland, bringing some more localised impacts.

"In addition, heavy rain may prove an additional hazard across northwestern areas."

It looks like Blackburn and East Lancashire will avoid the worst of it for now, with the area currently forecast rain all day and winds reaching 23mph, with gusts of up to 44mph.

While temperatures remain in the teens, the strong winds will make it feel a lot chillier.
