It look like summer is officially over, with heavy rain and thunderstorms set to sweep across East Lancashire later this week.

According to BBC weather, the end of the week will be a wet and windy day for many, as a band of heavy rain hits the north-west.

Parts of East Lancashire are no exception, with thunderstorms currently expected in Blackburn, Rossendale, Burnley, and Pendle.

This looks set to be coupled with strong winds of up to 22mph, with gusts getting up to 42mph.

BBC Weather says thunderstorms are set to hit parts of the county on Friday, September 30.

A mixture of light and heavy rain is expected from 9am until midnight, with thunderstorms currently expected between 7pm and 8pm.

While the storms are expected in parts of Blackburn, Rossendale, Burnley, and Pendle, they aren’t currently forecast in Hyndburn, Darwen or the Ribble Valley.

Light rain is predicted for the weekend and into next week, with temperatures in the mid-teens at their highest.
