A pie company owned by Britain’s biggest family, the Radfords, has received a one star food hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency.
The Radford’s Pie Company, located on Heysham Road in Morecambe, has been told to improve by inspectors after an official visit in May.
The food safety officers said major improvement is needed in the management of food safety.
Improvement is necessary in hygienic food handling as well as the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and the building.
A spokesperson for Lancaster City Council said a recent revisit to the company “found that standards have improved” since the last official inspection.
However, the rating will remain as a one until another visit has been made.
A spokesperson said: “The Radford Pie Company’s food hygiene rating for its Heysham Road premises will remain a one until a further visit to re-score the premises has been made.
“Whilst we can confirm that a revisit in August found that standards have improved since the last official inspection took place in May this year, the original rating must stand until an official re-score visit is undertaken.
“A re-score visit cannot be undertaken until three months has passed since the original inspection and this must be at the request of the business.
“The council has now received a request for a re-score visit to Radford Pie Company’s Heysham Road premises. This will be an unannounced visit and take place in due course.
“If all the required improvements have been made, there is no reason why the premises shouldn’t receive a higher rating when the re-score visit is undertaken.”
Dad, Noel, has owned the bakery since 1999 and the company offers pies from 280g all the way up to 1850g.
The family moved from a small pie shop into larger premises in July 2021.
The business helps to support the expenses of the family which come with having 22 children.
The family star in their Channel 5 series 22 Kids and Counting, which documents their busy life.
They also have a YouTube channel where they post videos about family life.
The Radford's Pie Company has been contacted for comment.
