Officers armed with a speed gun will be contacting 13 unlucky drivers after they were caught contravening the highway code.
On Saturday, officers from Burnley's neighbourhood police team targeted Burnham Gate and Colne Road in the town after being told by residents that the areas are speeding hot spots.
The speed of more than 180 vehicles were checked with police clocking 13 of these travelling faster than the legal speed limit.
They will now be contacted to explain their actions.
A spokesperson for the police said on Sunday evening: "Yesterday, members of Burnley neighbourhood policing team were out and about with the speed gun.
"We targeted Burnham Gate and Colne Road due to concerns raised by residents in these areas about speeding vehicles.
"We checked the speed of over 180 vehicles and 13 were found to be speeding.
"The owners of these vehicles will be contacted in due course."
