A primary school has launched a fundraising page to help pay for classroom improvements after revealing it is struggling to make ends meet with its allocated budget.

The new headteacher at Waddington and West Bradford CE Primary School in Clitheroe, Sarah White, set up a Go Fund Me page last week, asking for help to fund improvements at the school.

Mrs White, who took up the post as head at the beginning of the new term, said due to school budgets being challenging, they were finding it difficult to fund improvements and modernise the school's classrooms.

Setting a £2,000 target, which was surpassed over the weekend, Mrs White said: "We are asking for some help. School budgets are extremely challenging at the moment.

"This is making it very hard to find funds to improve the school.

"I am doing my best to analyse current spends, find grants and other sources of funding but it’s going to take time for the Governors and I to rectify this.

"The PTA have been brilliant and are supporting us with funds to buy more reading books which we are so grateful for.

"In the meantime, I desperately want to improve and modernise the environment for the children in the reception classroom.

"I am therefore asking for any help off any local businesses or families who may want to contribute either their time or a donation.

"We are looking to raise £2,000 to help us buy new resources and items for the provision."

The school is also seeking ideas for fundraising; are asking if any local businesses would want to donate money; if any local businesses may want to donate items such as indoor plants, soft furnishings, furniture etc; and for direct donations to the school itself.

Ms White added: "I know that things are tough financially for a lot of people at the moment. Therefore, I am hoping to reach out to large businesses who may be willing to support us."

At the time of writing, thirty five donations had been made to the fundraiser, with the total amount raised standing at £2,060.

The biggest amount donated from a single person has been £300.

The Department for Education set the budgets for schools across the country.

It has been approached for comment.
