Police are hunting for a man after a female officer was injured after being trapped between two cars at a McDonald's restaurant in Colne.

Police tried to stop Mark Smithies, who was wanted for disqualified driving, but in an attempt to escape, it was reported he mounted the kerb and went onto the grass verge, trapping a female PC between his car and a police car on Thursday afternoon.

The officer suffered an injury to her leg and was taken to hospital.

Police have been looking for Smithies, 31, since the incident, which took place at the fast food chain outlet on North Valley Road.

His last known address was Dickson Street in Burnley and was driving a blue Mitsubishi Lancer with registration plate number SV11 RWZ.

A Lancashire police spokesperson said: “Officers have tried to stop Smithies who was wanted for disqualified driving.

“In an attempt to escape the driver mounted the kerb and onto a grass verge trapping a female PC between his car, a blue Mitsubishi Lancer, registration SV11 RWZ, and a police car.

“She suffered an injury to her leg and was taken to hospital. Fortunately, her injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.

“We now want to speak to Smithies as part of our enquiries.”
