A RIBBLE Valley man who will spearhead British cycling's medal charge at the Beijing Olympics has received his OBE at Buckingham Palace.
Brian Cookson, of Bridgend, Whalley, was named in the Queen's New Year's Honours list for his services to cycling through his role as president of the British Cycling Federation.
He is pictured receiving his honour from The Queen at a special presentation held at Buckingham Palace, yesterday.
Mr Cookson is the regeneration director at Pendle Council and he has been pivotal in helping cycling grow in popularity during his 11-year reign as British cycling president.
Most recently, Mr Cookson oversaw the team's very impressive performance at last month's Track World Cup in Manchester.
