A MAN struggling with another man who was forcing his way into his room fell to the floor after feeling two hard blows, one to the side of his face and one to his head.

Blackburn magistrates heard that when Scott Worthington looked up from the floor he saw his assailant's mum standing over him with a golf club in her hand.

Karl Wickers, 18, of Clement Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to assaulting Scott Worthington.

He was committed on bail to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said Mr Worthington was living at an address in Sudellside Street and was in his room packing his belongings prior to moving out the next day.

He heard shouting from downstairs and when he went to the landing saw the defendant's mother.

"She shouted for her son and they both came up the stairs," said Mrs White.

"Mr Worthington tried to retreat into his room and shut the door but Wickers managed to push his way in and he didn't look like he was there for a chat."

Mr Worthington grabbed Wickers by his T-shirt to try and keep him at arm's length.

"As he was doing that he felt a hard blow to the side of his face and another to his head," said Mrs White.

"He fell to the floor feeling dizzy and when he looked up saw the defendant's mum with a golf club in her hand."

Basharat Ditta, defending, said the two men knew each other and there were issues between them.

"My client's girlfriend became Mr Worthington's girlfriend and there was no love lost between them," said Mr Ditta.

"My client went to speak to Mr Worthington about an incident at his sister's house and he accepts that he struck the other man."
