THE number of children killed or seriously injured on East Lancashire roads is decreasing, according to a new report.
There has been a 44 per cent reduction in Burnley over a seven-year period with the numbers killed or seriously injured dropping from 19 to 12.
In Ribble Valley the numbers have fallen by 42 per cent from eight to three compared with 39 per cent in Rossendale (13 to seven) and 24 per cent in Pendle (20 to 18).
The figures have been compiled by East Lancs Safe Network Group, a multi-agency group featuring representatives from East Lancashire Primary Care Trust, Lancashire Fire and Rescue and the councils.
Julie Carman, from East Lancs Teaching PCT, who chairs the Safe Network Group, is delighted with the figures.
She said: "The group works so well thanks to strong partnership relationships. We are all working towards a shared goal to reduce the amount of children killed or injured in Lancashire and by working together we are able to really make a difference.
"These road causality figures are a step in the right direction, however we won't become complacent as there is still lots of work to be done in this area to keep reducing these tragic deaths and injuries. "
