A MAN who attacked his partner and later turned on two police officers who came to arrest him for putting a window through has been jailed for 120 days.

Burnley magistrates heard how Mohammad Qasim Bhatti, 25, hit one officer on the face, knocking her to the floor and then headbutted a second victim who was called in to help.

Bhatti, said to have an appalling' record for violence, left the first officer shocked and dazed and the second injured after the outbursts.

The defendant, of Abel Street, Burnley, admitted common assault last October, and damage and two counts of police assault on March 29.

Elizabeth Read, prosecuting, told the court the victim of the domestic violence was Lisa Smithies, who had a relationship with the defendant for about 18 months but last October they had a heated row.

Bhatti punched her in the face, she fell to the floor and he then began kicking her about the body.

On March 29, police arrived after the defendant smashed a window.

An officer was trying to take him to the van, but Bhatti struck the officer in the face, knocking her to the floor. She pressed the emergency button to alert other patrols.

Mrs Read said another officer began to question Bhatti and the defendant became aggressive, was abusive and headbutted him in the face.

The prosecutor said Bhatti had an appalling' record for violence and had previous convictions.
