TWO Burnley schemes aimed at tackling childhood obesity and getting young people into training have been praised at a national award ceremony.
Burnley Council's Strike for Life and Buffalo schemes were finalists in the Sustainable Communities Awards 2008.
At a ceremony at London's Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane, they were highly commended.
Strike for Life bids to take young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and provide them with skills.
Buffalo is a partnership with the East Lancashire Primary Care Trust aimed at working with children aged up to 11 through schools to educate them about healthy eating and encourage them to take part in sports.
