GOLFERS in Pendle are being asked to take part in a charity tournament.

The mayor of Pendle's Charity Golf Tournament is being held at Marsden Park Golf Course, Nelson, on Wednesday, May 14 and will be one of the mayor and mayoress's final engagements of their mayoral year.

Eighteen teams of four players are needed for each day, which will begin with refreshments and bacon sandwiches in the clubhouse.

The games start at 10.30am and a buffet lunch will be available for all players following their game.

Coun Allan Buck and mayoress Barbara Mitchell will be at the club to welcome the players and start them off.

They will also present the winners with their prizes at the end of the tournament.

All the money raised will go to the Mayor's Charity Fund - his chosen charities are West Craven First Responders, Rainbows Special Needs Therapy Nursery in Barrowford and the Burnley and Pendle Befriending Scheme.

Coun Allan Buck said: "It should be a great day out for everyone who enjoys playing golf.

"It's a chance to test your skills against players from all over the area, as well as a bit of fun and I hope as many people as possible will take up the challenge."

The event is being sponsored by Farmhouse Biscuits, but sponsors are also needed for each of the 18 holes.

If you would like to take part in the tournament, sponsor one of the holes or you want any more information, contact the event organiser, Martin Robinson, at Marsden Park Golf Course on 01282 661912.
