THE Queen's State Funeral on Monday will not be broadcast on the big screen outside Blackburn Town Hall.

But the town's Vue Cinema will be showing the historic ceremony.

Blackburn with Darwen Council has decided against holding public gatherings and events.

Instead they are encouraging people to hold their own commemorations of the life to the later Queen Elizabeth II on the day of the funeral.

Denise Park, chief executive of Blackburn with Darwen Council said: "There are no town centre events planned on Monday.

"We are encouraging people to watch and mourn Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral wherever they feel most appropriate, whether that be privately in their own homes or gathered with loved ones.

“Vue Cinema in Blackburn are taking bookings for a screening of the funeral for those wanting to get together with others.

“All digital screens are showing commemorative images of Her Majesty The Queen.

"All details about council commemorative activity and service changes on the Bank Holiday are available on The Shuttle.

"It’s vital that people can still access essential services.”

Cllr John Slater said: "I think this is the right decision.

"There is going to be nobody in town as all the shops will be shut.

"Most people are going to want to watch it at home.

"There is no need to show the funeral on the big screen outside the Blackburn Town Hall."
