A charity challenge got a boost from a fundraiser at the Fisherman's Retreat in Ramsbottom.
George Bradbury of Barnoldswick, hosted a hog roast to raise cash for the Daystar School in Uganda.
The grandad, who works for Pennine Telecom, aims to cycle 2,500 miles through eleven countries to reach his destination of Santiago de Compostela in north western Spain.
The money he raises will help the Daystar School to buy a plot of land to create a farm and teach children how to grow and produce food.
Fifty guests gathered at the Fisherman's Retreat to enjoy a meal.
A raffle, auction and quiz contrib-uted towards a successful evening, with more than £1,600 raised on the night.
George said: "I want to thank everyone who joined me, including the evening's sponsors Avaya, Matrix, Oak, Polycom, Interquartz and The Fisherman's Retreat."
George is taking a sabbatical at the end of April to pedal solo and plans to complete the trip in two months doing 50 miles a day.
