LAND which the multi-million pound Darwen Academy will be built on could hold vital pieces of the town's history, according to a councillor.
After investigations into the background of the Redearth Triangle, Coun Simon Huggill believes there could be a bridge under the site, a graveyard, a colliery and much more.
Coun Huggill said a bridge over the River Darwen, built before it was redirected, could lie under houses being demolished. He said the site should be examined before the academy was built.
The Redearth Triangle is the site for a £34million Darwen Academy. Blackburn with Darwen Council is demolishing 150 homes to make way for the academy.
Investigations by Blackburn with Darwen Council and Lancashire County Council have not yet found anything of historical value to the area.
