The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain that covers most of Lancashire.

The heavy rain weather warning is in place until 11am today (September 12) having been in place since midnight, and covers Blackburn with Darwen, Accrington and the wider Hyndburn borough, and parts of the Ribble Valley.

It also covers wider parts of Lancashire including Blackpool and Preston, but Burnley, Clitheroe and Bacup have avoided the warning area.

According to the Met Office these are four things we can expect with a yellow warning:

  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services possible
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible.

The Met Office's chief forecaster added: "Following some rain during Sunday afternoon and evening, another band of heavy rain is likely across parts of north Wales and into northern England from early on Monday morning.

"This will be slow moving for a time with the potential for widely 20 to 40mm and some spots of 60 to 80mm, these mostly for parts of northwest Wales.

"With much of this rain falling in three to six hours some disruption is likely, particularly to travel during Monday morning."

While the rain will cause disruption it is also a welcome sight after one of the hottest and driest summers on record, and will replenish water reserves in the county and bring vital hydration to the moors, fields and gardens which have been at risk of wildfire.
