Officials are warning people to remain vigilant after they recieve more than 1,500 reports of scam emails.
Action Fraud, UK's national reporting centre for fraud and cyber crime, has recieved 1,567 reports relating to fake emails purporting to be from Ofgem.
The emails state that the recipient is eligible for a rebate as a result of a newly-announced government scheme.
The links in the emails lead to genuine-looking websites that are designed to steal personal and financial information.
A spokesperson for Action Fraud said: "If you have any doubts about a message, contact the organisation directly.
"Don't use the numbers or address in the messahe, use the details from their official website.
"Your bank or any other official source will never ask you to supply personal information via email."
If you have spotted a suspicious email, forward it to report@phishing.gov.uk
