Residents of Clayton-le-Moors won’t have to travel as far to use a Post Office anymore as a branch is set to reopen in a local shop.

The Post Office will launch at 1pm on Friday, September 23 in an existing convenience shop located in Whalley Road.

The new branch is a relocation of the post office that used to be situated on Dill Hall Lane but closed down more than a decade ago.

Altham West Post Office will be open from 9am to 7pm every Monday to Friday and 9am to 2pm on Saturdays.

The owners of Open All Hours shop shared how pleased they are to welcome a new post office in the area.

They said: “We’ve had this shop for over 20 years now and we’re dedicated to offering brilliant service to the community.

“We’re happy that we’ve now got this second amenity because we can continue providing good service for our customers and now people won’t have to travel far just to get to the post office.

“They’ve got one on their door step. We’re excited for the launch on September 23 and look forward to benefiting our community here.”

This will restore Post Office services to the area and the branch will become known as Altham West Post Office.

The previous branch closed in 2012.

Samuel Williams, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said: “We are delighted to soon be restoring a Post Office to this area as we know how important a Post Office is to a community.

"The opening hours will make it convenient for customers to visit.

“We are keen to restore this full-time branch to the area as soon as possible, so we have decided to go ahead with our plans.”

Altham Councillor Dominik Allen said: “The relocation of the post office is great news for Altham West and the surrounding area.

"The fact that the post office will be open for 76 hours a week will ensure that the services provided will be available to hundreds of residents whenever they need them."
