IN 1994 the Lancashire Evening Telegraph was given an exclusive glimpse of things to come in Blackburn.

Proposals were to be submitted for a comprehensive redevelopment of the town’s shopping centre area.

And the Telegraph was given access to the artists’ impressions showing what the new-look centre and surrounding area would look like.

Both the shopping centre and market would be transformed under the proposals - the first major change to the town centre since the mid 1960s when the old market hall and clock were demolished.

Take a look at the drawings - probably being published for the first time since that exclusive reveal back in 1994.

How close do you think the reality came to the concept?

The centre would last like this for almost 30 years before another revamp which created the Mall Blackburn.
