A 16-year-old girl who filmed a ‘disturbing’ attack on a man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.
Officers were called to a report of a man in his 40s who had been badly assaulted on Wednesday, August 31, in one of the busiest areas of Blackpool.
Shocking footage of the man being attacked and then robbed on Blackpool Prom was circulating online, which is believed to have been filmed by the 16-year-old girl.
The girl is currently in police custody.
The man in his 40s suffered severe injuries including several broken bones and serious cuts and bruises.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested and appeared at magistrates’ court yesterday (September 1).
He is next due to appear at Blackpool Youth Court on September 15.
A spokesperson for the police said: “We posted earlier today about the shocking video of the man being assaulted and robbed on The Prom and we told you that a 16-year-old boy had been arrested and charged with robbery.
“Just to update you he has now appeared at magistrates’ court and has been remanded into custody. He is next due to appear at Blackpool Youth Court on September 15.
“We also wanted to let you know that we have this afternoon arrested a 16-year-old girl on suspicion of conspiracy to rob. We believe she was the individual who filmed the incident. She is currently in custody.
“Some people have been asking why the boy has been charged with robbery. Robbery is a serious offence which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. The offence is committed when someone steals from another while threatening or using force against the victim.
“When we have reviewed all the evidence, we will of course consider any other appropriate charges.
“Once again, we would like to stress that such levels of violence will not be tolerated in our communities and we will relentlessly pursue those who commit such heinous crimes.”
