An investigation is under way after more than £25,000 of tobacco was stolen in a burglary earlier this month.

Police were called to Makro Wholesalers in Preston after a theft took place between 12.25am and 1.15am on Monday, August 8.

One of the heavy goods vehicles, parked in Chain Caul Way, was broken into and £25,000 worth of tobacco was stolen.

CCTV footage shows that two men were involved in the theft. Both were hiding their identities with face masks and had baseball caps.

One man was wearing dark clothing which has distinctive illuminous logos on the front and the back. The other man was wearing plain dark clothing.

Detectives are appealing for information and would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious.

Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to get in touch to help with the investigation of the robbery.

A spokesperson for the police said: “We are currently investigating a high value theft which occurred at Makro Wholesalers in Chain Caul Way, Preston, on Monday, August 8, between the hours of 12.25qm and 1.15am.

“The theft occurred when one of the HGVs were broken into and a substantial amount of tobacco products were stolen equalling in excess of £25,000.

“As you can see in the CCTV still, there were two males involved in the theft. They appear to both be wearing baseball caps and face masks.

"They are wearing what appears to be dark clothing, one has distinctive illuminous logos on his front and back. We appreciate that the footage is not the clearest.

“We are appealing for any information in relation to this theft if you were in the area at the time and noticed anything suspicious or if you have any CCTV or dashcam footage then please get in touch.”
