A CORONAVIRUS discount evening bus ticket deal by East Lancashire's main bus operator is to be extended after one million of the £1 fares were sold.
Transdev - which runs the Blackburn and Burnley Bus Companies and Rosso - launched the bargain flat fare for journeys after 7pm in June 2021.
Now following a review of the bus firm’s tickets in Lancashire the discount evening fare is to continue.
Following its launch, bus passenger number reached 85 per cent of pre-pandemic levels – having plummeted to just five per cent in the first 2020 lockdown.
Now Transdev has revealed it sold a million £1 evening tickets in 14 months fuelling a 72 per cent rise in evening journeys within Lancashire.
As a result, any journey wholly within Lancashire after 7pm on buses run by The Blackburn Bus Company, The Burnley Bus Company and Rosso will still be only £1.
Transdev Commercial Director Paul Turner said: “We know our buses have played a vital part in rebuilding Lancashire’s evening economy beyond the pandemic – and it was with that in mind that we first created our £1 after 7pm fare offer.
“We originally planned to offer it until the end of September 2021, , as it was clearly helping to attract more people back to our buses, we extended it to the end of last year and kept it going through 2022. The popularity of the offer is such that we can now carry on with it for evening journeys in Lancashire.”
Fares for all cross-boundary journeys between Lancashire and Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire will be frozen at their regular daytime prices.
The news follows train operator Northern - which runs the East Lancashire line from Preston to Colne via Blackburn, Accrington, Burnley and Nelson - launching a flash sale of more a million tickets for just a pound.
