Students at a Blackburn school achieved an "impressive set of results" against a backdrop of grades lowering nationally.

St Wilfrid’s C of E Academy said it had continued to perform above national averages at the key markers and several subjects saw better results than in 2019 when exams were last taken.

There were some notable high achievers, with several students being awarded high grades. Steven Imade was one of the academy’s top performers, with an incredible set of eight grade 9s and one grade 8.

James gained seven 9s and two 7s, Holly achieved six grade 9s and three 8s and Ellie achieved four 9s and five 8s

Amongst other students with a mix of all Grade 9s and Grade 8s were Holly Graham and Ellie Johnson, who were both delighted with their accomplishments.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Principal Huddleston said: “We have been impressed by the attitude and approach of our year 11 during remote learning and since their return to the classroom. They have worked extremely hard and these results are thoroughly deserved.

“I would also like to thank the staff for their dedication and unwavering support for our students which has resulted in some superb individual student and subject level results.

“Staff are looking forward to welcoming many of our students back into the Sixth Form in September and would like to extend a special welcome to those joining us from other schools in the area.

“I am sure that they will continue to enjoy academic success at the Academy building on their achievements this summer. For those students embarking on their next steps elsewhere, I wish them well for the future.”
