Darwen Vale High School is celebrating unprecedented success in this year’s GCSE results.

In many of the subjects, the class of 2022 has outperformed the class of 2019, the last time any external examinations were sat.

Subjects performing particularly well were English and Mathematics where 77 per cent of students achieved a grade 4 or above in English and 73 per cent achieved the threshold in Mathematics, both ahead of the 2019 national pass rate.

Students achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Art, Enterprise & Marketing, photography and sports.

Alongside strong subject performances, individual students also achieved some remarkable results, in particular Emma Noble who achieved the highest grade possible a grade 9 in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, History, French, Art and combined Science.

Also getting great results were Charlotte Jackson, who achieved a Grade 9, two Grade 8s, three Grade 7s and two grade 6s, Jessica Proud who achieved five Garde 7s, two Grade 6s and one Grade 5, – Katie Nobel who scored an amazing eight Grade 9s, and Alex Holden who achieved two grade 9s, four Grade 8s, a Grade 7 and distinction.

Principal Matthew Little said: “The results represent another significant step forward for Vale.

"The staff and students have worked incredibly hard to secure these outcomes. They and our parents should be rightly proud of the achievements of our young people.” 

Jane Fletcher, chief executive at Aldridge Education, added: “We are immensely proud of what our students and staff have achieved today.

"This group of students lost a considerable amount of time with lockdowns, remote learning and staff absences due to Covid, which makes their achievement even more remarkable.”
