Detectives investigating the death of Jack Jermy-Doyle say they have spoken to a key witness who helped him after the assault.

Jack, 25, was assaulted on the junction of Harris Street and Birley Street in Preston at approximately 2.40am last Friday (August 12) following a fight with two men.

He was taken to hospital but died on Sunday. His family are being supported by specially trained officers.

Officers have now identified and spoken to a key witness who helped Jack after the assault and was later seen in Friargate.

Two men - aged 21 and 28 from Preston - have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and are on police bail while enquiries continue.

They are still keen to speak to anyone who saw any of the two men described below in the area before or after the fight, or in Preston on Thursday evening or the early hours of Friday morning.

The first man is white, approximately 5ft 9ins tall in his late 20s. He was wearing a grey Under Armour baseball cap, grey shirt with black stripes and black patterned shorts.

The second man is described as short, of a slim build, with blonde hair. He was wearing a lime green top and shorts.

Police also want to hear from anybody who saw Jack in the area before the assault. He was wearing a black and white check shirt over a black t-shirt, blue jeans and black trainers.

Det Insp Bryony Midgley said: “First and foremost my thoughts remain with Jack’s family and friends. I can’t begin to imagine what they are going through.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their response to our previous appeals, but am still asking people to come forward who could provide information to help us piece together the events leading to Jack’s tragic death.

“Whatever information you have – no matter how insignificant you think it is - may be key to the investigation so please come and speak to us."

In a tribute Jack’s family said: “No words can describe the utter devastation we as a family are feeling.

"Jack was a funny, charismatic, amazing young man who had so much to offer this world and we are truly broken that he has been taken from us so soon.

"He will forever be in our hearts and thoughts.”
