Firefighters spent more than an hour rescuing a horse that had been trapped on its side in a carrier.

Two fire engines from Preston and Darwen were called the Preston New Road, Samlesbury at 10.30pm yesterday after a horse got trapped on its side in a transport vehicle.

Crews used a salvage sheet, and it took about one hour and 15 minutes to save the equine.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Two fire engines from Preston and Darwen attended the rescue of a horse trapped on its side in a horse transit vehicle on Preston New Road in Samlesbury.

“Firefighters used a salvage sheet to assist the horse from the box. Crews were in attendance for approximately one hour and 15 minutes.”
