The Big Breakfast, co-hosted by Blackburn’s AJ Odudu, returned to our screens at the weekend – and one moment left viewers in stitches.

In one segment of the show singer Rita Ora talked about her favourite food and snacks via a live video link.

Co-host Mo Gilligan said: “Do you like any alternative snacks? I know you like a tabasco sandwich sometimes.

Rita said: “I just like anything spicy – the spicier the better

“I have just looked in my fruit bowl, look at this dusty apple.”

She then brought the “dusty apple” to the camera in order to give presenters and the viewers a better look.

She said: "I don't even know if it's an apple, I think it might be a shrivelled pear."

Holding back laughter, former St Bede’s High School pupil AJ, said: “Rita, I'm sorry to break it to you. It's a peach, not an apple."

“Is it!?” said Rita examining the fruit. “It’s 3am here give me a break.”

One viewer said: “Rita Ora confusing a peach with an apple had me in stitches.”

“Not Rita Ora mistaking a peach for an apple, what is this woman?” said another.

A third said: “Rita Ora thinks a peach is a ‘dusty apple’. Cheers Big Breakfast.”

The Big Breakfast reboot will air on Channel 4 every Saturday for three more weeks.

The episodes will broadcast live for two-and-a-half hours, during which Mo and AJ will be joined by a range of guests to dissect the day’s hot topics.

AJ and Mo hosted a one-off special last year as part of Channel 4’s Black To Front project, which saw a day of programming during which the broadcaster aired shows fronted by black stars and featuring black contributors.

The Big Breakfast first launched as a weekday morning entertainment programme in 1992 and last aired in its original format more than two decades ago.

During its original run, the show became distinctive for broadcasting from an actual house, known as The Big Breakfast House, which had been a run of lock-keepers’ cottages in Tower Hamlets in East London.

A variety of famous faces presented the show originally, including Chris Evans, Gaby Roslin, Zoe Ball and more.

The Big Breakfast airs on Saturdays at 10am, on Channel 4 and All 4
