Bottled water stations will remain open until 8pm today to help all those struggling after a mains pipe burst at the weekend.

United Utilities have now set-up bottled water stations at Ewood Park and Witton Park, with the station at Pleasington playfields closing.

The burst pipe on Old Farmside, in the Ewood area of Blackburn, caused a loss of water pressure for some homes on Saturday, whilst others were forced to go without water for more than 30 hours in baking temperatures.

A fleet of tankers were dispatched to pump water into the system, and the water company has been working tirelessly since Saturday to rectify the situation.

On Tuesday morning, Blackburn with Darwen Council announced that United Utilities had set up a new bottled water station at Ewood Park, which will remain open until 8pm tonight.

A spokesperson from the water company said on Tuesday morning: "Just to let you know, our bottled water stations at the below locations are now open and will remain open until 8pm tonight.

  • Witton Park, BB2 2TS
  • Ewood Park, BB2 4JF

"We will also have a customer information point at the Ewood Park bottled water station, where we will have someone on hand to answer any questions you might have about the repairs.

"We’re so grateful for the continued patience and we’re still working hard to get the taps flowing again for everyone across the area.

"Our teams are continuing to work around the clock to repair the burst water main on Old Farmside, BB2.

"Whilst these repairs are ongoing we are diverting water from other areas and our fleet of water on wheels tankers are pumping as much water as they can into the pipes, this means that the vast majority of our customers now have some supply, however this may fluctuate during peak times of the day.

"We are aware that a very small number of customers may still be experiencing no supply, our engineers are working non-stop to fix this and hope to have things back to normal as soon as possible.

"We’re very sorry for the continued disruption."
