A team of police officers are raising funds to support a cancer charity by taking part in a gruelling 30-mile walk.

Officers from Blackburn are completing the walk after their former colleague Sergeant Kev Jones was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

On Sunday 21 August, the entire response team will be walking on their rest day from Darwen Tower to Blackpool Tower, to raise funds for The Christie Trust – a charity  that has supported their pal in his time of need.

In his final year before retiring, Sgt  Jones was diagnosed with a rare neuroendocrine tumour that effects the bloodstream.

The cancer itself is so rare, that statistically he had more chance of winning the EuroMillions than receiving his diagnosis. Kev agreed to a clinical trial which looked at new ways of attacking, and blocking new cancer cells from developing and his tumour has reduced by 88 per cent.

The trial has been funded by donations and charity events, such as sponsored walks and cake baking.

On Sunday the team – and others from departments Kev worked with - will be walking and fundraising for The Christie Trust, to help and support cancer patients like Kev to receive this life changing support.

The team are asking for donations through their dedicated JustGiving page, where all money raised goes straight to The Christie Trust.
